Tsavo Trust’s Workshop On Human – Wildlife Conflict Mitigation
In an inspiring effort to foster harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife, Tsavo Trust, in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service and Kamungi Conservancy hosted a workshop on Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation on 14th June 2024 at the Tsavo West National Park Education Hall. The event brought together 40 stakeholders, including representatives from the National Government, Makueni County Government, Kenya Wildlife Service, Wildlife Research and Training Institute, elected leaders, local communities, and conservation NGOs.
The workshop served as a collaborative platform for open discussion and knowledge sharing. Participants gained a deeper understanding of each other’s conservation efforts, leading to the co-development of innovative solutions to mitigate human-wildlife conflict. This collaborative approach is crucial for fostering harmonious coexistence between humans and wildlife in the Tsavo Landscape, ensuring the sustainability of both communities and wildlife.

“We need to transition from human-wildlife conflict to human-wildlife coexistence, where both humans and wildlife are well taken care of.” said Ahmed Hussein, Assistant County Commissioner of Mtito Andei Division.
Tsavo Trust is dedicated to promoting thriving biodiversity, sustainable livelihoods, and strong partnerships within the greater Tsavo ecosystem. By working together with all stakeholders, they aim to find effective solutions to human-wildlife conflict and ensure peaceful coexistence between wildlife and local communities.
The workshop not only facilitated meaningful discussions but also resulted in the development of specific, actionable strategies to reduce human-wildlife conflicts in the Tsavo Landscape. By integrating diverse perspectives and fostering a spirit of cooperation, the workshop contributed significantly to the ongoing efforts to achieve a balanced ecosystem where both humans and wildlife can thrive. Building on this success, Tsavo Trust plans to hold two more Human-Wildlife Conflict mitigation workshops in 2024.
