Empowering Students in the Tsavo Ecosystem
At Tsavo Trust, we believe that empowering local communities living alongside wildlife is key to long-term conservation success. By enhancing access to quality education in Kamungi Conservancy, we are nurturing the next generation of conservation champions.
In rural Kenya, students often face significant disadvantages compared to their urban peers due to limited access to digital resources. To address this, Tsavo Trust recently installed ICT hubs at Joanna Chase and Kathekani Secondary Schools, expanding our ICT Project to five schools in Kamungi Conservancy, Tsavo ecosystem. In total, these schools have received 120 laptops, 5 ARES servers, 5 projectors, and 10 speakers. Additionally, three schools have been equipped with 5KVA hybrid solar systems, ensuring reliable power. The schools prepared dedicated spaces for these hubs, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing student learning.
The ARES system, designed for rugged environments, acts as a self-contained virtual library, offering a wealth of educational content without needing constant internet access—an essential feature for rural schools.

For the principal of Kathekani Secondary School, it is a moment of pride and hope for a brighter future “We have always dreamed of digital resources, but financial limitations held us back. Tsavo Trust’s support has opened doors to transformative learning,”. At Joanna Chase Secondary School, the solar system has brought significant savings. “In just one month, we have saved KES 35,000 in electricity costs,” noted the principal.
This project is directly benefiting over 1,150 students and 60 teachers, providing them with modern teaching tools, expanded educational resources and essential digital skills. The Sub-County Director of Education commended the project: “This initiative is equipping our students with the technology they need to thrive in the future.”

This vital project is made possible through the partnership of Tsavo Trust, Kamungi Conservancy, African Ruggedized Education Solution (ARES), Eagle Foundation, and Haller Foundation. Together, we are not only bridging the digital divide but also building the foundation for future conservation champions.
Join us in expanding this transformative initiative by supporting our ongoing efforts to bring digital resources to even more schools, ensuring a brighter and more sustainable future for both people and wildlife.
